OLD 45'S bio

Old 45’s is a four piece rock and roll band forged from a love of the music of the fifties and sixties. Ray Peterson and Ken Ord spent 7 years with the Rockin Bodgies playing rock and roll on the Brisbane club circuit. The boys did regular gigs at Coolangatta’s Wintersun Rock and Roll festival every year. Ray Baxter our bass player was touring with a bass electric guitar the week after they were invented so he’s sort of an old hand at it.

John E. Rocket on drums is the other half of the engine room in the band and gives the band that driving rhythm that is essential to early rock and roll music.

So whether you are after a dance band or just some weekend foot-tappin’ music for your venue, the group will deliver and keep your patrons happy and yelling for more. Call Doreen on (07) 33439224 or 0418 792 011 to make a booking

JOHN E. ROCKET

John E. Rocket has been "hitting the skins" for (in his words) "about 200 years". Needless to say, he's just about got it right by now! Since joining Old 45s as the stoker in the engine room, he has taken the band forward as a very popular dance band. His rockin' drumming style makes keeping your feet still virtually impossible. In any "crash and burn" he'll be found in the wreckage with his hand on the throttle.

Rhythm Guitar - Ray Peterson

Ray Peterson on vocals and rhythm guitar got his first guitar when he was sixteen. At that stage the guitar was just an accessory to hang around his neck and impress the girls in high school. Well that idea worked like a screen door on a submarine so he thought he might as well learn how to play it.

Growing up in the 50’s and 60’s gave Ray his love of rock and roll music. Elvis was a huge influence and Ray saved up to buy “Hard Headed Woman” when he was just 11. He and his wife used to own an “Elvis” 1966 Cadillac convertible, a rich maroon colour with a white rag top and chrome two feet deep. He got tired of getting his face slapped when he asked the girls to go for a topless ride with him.

Every genre of music seems to have associated with it its special clothing, accessories and sometimes language but no era of music can match the sheer excitement of the 50’s and 60’s in clothes, cars, milk bars, record hops and hair styles. It’s not just a coincidence that in those days people held their partner when dancing. The beat in the music made them do it. It’s lucky for Ray and the band that people today still want to hear that beat from a live band because that’s what keeps the music alive.

Ken and his "Black Flash" tele

Ken leads our "string section" with his beloved Tele and likes nothing more than crank it up and let it rip.....(typical lead guitarist!!). He would play Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry songs all night if we let him. Ken believes Rock & Roll finished in 1965 and so it's hard to convince him to play anything later then that. But a good song is a good song whenever it's written so he usually comes around....eventually!

Our Bass Man - Ray Baxter

Just watch his fingers and see how hard he works. He's been playing rock and roll and other stuff since Jesus played soccer for the Bethlehem Strikers. Ray has a passion for the music and like the rest of us is not doing this for the money. A regular gentleman and someone we are proud to make music with.
